Lakhimpur Kheri, 09 Sept : Officials have warned residents of at least a half-dozen villages in the Shardanagar forest range here to keep careful after a wild animal murdered two youngsters in the region. Sanjay Biswal, Divisional Forest Officer, South Kheri, issued the caution on Friday, advising residents not to send their children out alone and to work in groups in their fields while playing loud music to dissuade the unidentified carnivore from approaching. Biswal stated that if the locals come across a wild animal, they must immediately notify forest officials.
A seven-year-old child from Mukundapur village was murdered in an animal attack on September 1, and a 14-year-old boy from Khaiya village was assaulted on September 7. The child died the next day as a result of his injuries.
Investigation into the South Kheri Forest Attacks
The South Kheri forest officials have stated that they have yet to identify the animal responsible for the attacks. Big cats like as tigers and leopards, as well as wolves, live in the forest. Following the two human fatalities, Biswal stated that patrolling teams have been sent in the region to scour the fields and village roads for pugmarks of the prowling animal.
He stated that four camera traps had been erected at each of the two locations where the assaults occurred, as well as a cage near Khaiya village. Experts have also been contacted to help identify the wild animal and reduce the human-animal conflict, he added.
