The fatal road accident in Greater Noida on Sunday evening, claiming the lives of three individuals including a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, has once again exposed the growing threat of reckless driving on peri-urban stretches and highlighted the deep emotional, social, and economic vacuum such tragedies leave behind. The incident, which unfolded on the Dankaur-Sikandrabad road, involved a speeding tractor that rammed into two motorcycles from the front, leading to immediate chaos, severe injuries to children, and long-lasting grief for multiple families. As the injured children fight for their lives and the authorities initiate legal proceedings, the disturbing details of how the crash occurred and how quickly the situation spiraled into tragedy have come into sharper focus.

TRAGIC JOURNEY TURNS INTO A FATAL COLLISION

According to the police and eyewitness accounts, the victims were simply on their way to attend a wedding ceremony in Bulandshahr when their plans were abruptly cut short by the rash actions of a tractor driver who showed complete disregard for road safety. The first motorcycle, carrying Hiralal, his sister-in-law Tulsi, and Tulsi’s two children, Kumkum and Deva, was proceeding normally along the stretch when the speeding tractor, approaching from the opposite direction, collided head-on with them near Kinarsi village. The impact was so severe that all four riders were flung onto the road, leaving them in critical condition.

Hiralal, aged twenty-five, lived with his family in Unchi Dankaur and earned his livelihood by selling momos in the local market. He was known in his neighbourhood as a hardworking young man who took responsibility for his extended family as well. On the day of the incident, he had taken it upon himself to escort his sister-in-law and her children to the wedding function, a gesture reflecting his familial warmth and sense of duty. Tulsi, aged thirty-six, was travelling with her twelve-year-old daughter Kumkum and her ten-year-old son Deva. What they expected to be a pleasant family outing soon turned into a horrifying ordeal that resulted in irreversible loss.

Even before villagers and passersby could gather themselves after the first collision, the tractor continued moving forward, and within seconds, it struck another motorcycle approaching from the same route. This second bike was being ridden by twenty-three-year-old Gaurav Nagar of Junaidpur village. Gaurav, who was on his way to attend his own personal commitments, had no time to react as the tractor came charging directly toward him. He too was hit with full force, causing severe injuries that left him unconscious by the time help arrived.

Eyewitnesses later recounted how the driver of the tractor showed no intent of stopping even after causing the two collisions, and instead abandoned the vehicle at the site before fleeing the scene on foot. His escape not only raised questions about the reckless handling of agricultural machinery on busy roads but also highlighted the urgent need for better monitoring and enforcement to prevent similar incidents. The tractor, later seized by the police, stands as the primary piece of evidence in the case, pointing toward the negligence that cost three promising lives.

GRIEF, MEDICAL BATTLE AND THE WEIGHT OF UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Following the dual impact and severe injuries, locals rushed to rescue the five victims, calling for medical assistance and transporting them to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida. Doctors at the hospital immediately began emergency treatment, but despite their efforts, Hiralal, Tulsi, and Gaurav were declared dead during the course of treatment. The hospital authorities confirmed that the injuries were extensive and life-threatening, giving the victims little chance of survival.

The condition of the two children, Kumkum and Deva, continues to remain critical. Both suffered multiple injuries and required specialized medical care, including continuous monitoring, advanced imaging, and prolonged treatment. Their struggle for survival has cast a heavy emotional burden on the family, who are dealing simultaneously with the shock of losing three members and the uncertainty regarding the recovery of the two youngest victims.

For the families, especially those of Hiralal and Tulsi, the tragedy is particularly overwhelming. Tulsi, a mother who had simply stepped out with her children to celebrate a joyous occasion, leaves behind an irreparable void. Her children—who survived the crash but remain hospitalized—may soon have to face the devastating reality of losing both their mother and their caretaker. Hiralal, known widely in the locality for his simple lifestyle and dedication to supporting his household, had been an important helping hand in managing day-to-day responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the death of Gaurav has triggered waves of sorrow across Junaidpur village and among his colleagues in Greater Noida. A radiologist by profession, Gaurav worked at a private hospital in the region and was admired by fellow staff members for his sincerity and professional commitment. His sudden death has been particularly heartbreaking for his young wife, with whom he had married just eight months earlier. The dreams and future plans they had built together have been tragically interrupted, leaving behind questions no grieving spouse should ever have to ask.

The social fabric of the affected families has been shaken to its core as relatives, neighbours, colleagues, and community members gather to express their condolences. The loss of three lives in a single incident has sparked discussions in the region regarding road safety, stricter regulations for agricultural vehicles, and accountability for rash driving. While the families prepare for the last rites and attempt to come to terms with their loss, they continue to wait for justice in the hope that the driver responsible for this catastrophe will be apprehended and punished.

Police officials have stated that they have registered a case under serious sections related to rash driving, negligence, and culpable homicide. The tractor has been taken into custody, and initial forensic examinations are expected to provide further clarity on the speed, condition, and mechanical aspects of the vehicle at the time of the accident. Officers from the Dankaur police station, including Station House Officer Munendra Singh, confirmed that an investigation is underway and that the driver will be arrested soon based on the complaint filed by the families.

The tragedy has acted as a grim reminder of how lives can change within seconds when road discipline is ignored and heavy vehicles are allowed to operate without proper regulation. Families that were preparing to attend a celebration are now immersed in grief, hospitals are battling to save the lives of two children, and communities remain shaken as they attempt to process the enormity of what happened on an otherwise ordinary evening.
