Gautam Buddh Nagar:

A 14-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after an exposed iron rod pierced his mouth while he was playing Holi in a residential society in Greater Noida on Monday night. Another child was also injured in the same incident after being struck on the forehead by a similar rod. Both children were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition.

The incident occurred at Ajnara Homes Society, located in the Bisrakh police station area. Residents have alleged negligence on the part of the society’s maintenance team, claiming that sharp iron rods were left exposed after plantation work in the open area.

Incident During Holi Celebrations

According to residents, the 14-year-old boy, identified as the son of Umesh, a resident of Tower N, was playing with his friends in the society’s park area when the accident took place. The open space had recently been developed with plants for greenery, and thin iron rods had been installed around the saplings for protection.

During the course of playing, the sharp end of one such rod reportedly pierced the boy’s mouth near his chin area. The injury led to significant bleeding, causing panic among those present at the scene.

At the same time, another child sustained injuries after being struck on the forehead by a similar rod. Residents said the rods were thin and pointed, posing a serious safety hazard in an area frequently used by children.

Immediate Medical Attention

Hearing the injured boy’s cries, residents rushed to the spot and immediately transported both children to Yatharth Hospital for emergency treatment.

Doctors at the hospital’s emergency unit began immediate medical intervention. According to hospital officials, two children from Ajnara Homes Society were admitted—one with an injury on the forehead and the other with a rod injury near the chin and mouth area.

Medical staff have stated that both children are currently stable. However, the child whose mouth was pierced experienced heavy bleeding at the time of the incident.

Allegations of Negligence

Following the incident, residents raised concerns about the society’s maintenance practices. They alleged that after carrying out plantation work in the open area, the maintenance team left sharp iron rods uncovered and unattended, creating a dangerous environment for children.

Residents have demanded accountability, stating that adequate safety measures should have been implemented, especially in areas where children regularly play.

Ankit Mishra, a resident of the society, said the rods had been placed around plants to support greenery but were left exposed without protective caps or proper covering. He emphasized that such negligence could have resulted in even more serious consequences.

Safety Concerns in Residential Societies

The incident has sparked discussions among residents regarding safety protocols in housing societies, particularly during festive occasions when children are more likely to gather in common areas.

Residents have urged the society management to conduct a thorough safety audit of open spaces and ensure that any hazardous materials or structures are either removed or adequately secured.

Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, residents are reportedly considering further action to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Condition of the Children

Hospital authorities confirmed that both injured children are under medical observation and are stable. The boy with the mouth injury is receiving treatment to manage the wound, while the second child is being treated for a forehead injury.

The timely response by residents and prompt medical care are believed to have prevented more severe complications.

As the investigation into the matter continues, residents are calling for stricter maintenance standards and enhanced safety measures to protect children within residential complexes.
