New Delhi, March 19, 2026 — In a major push to strengthen urban safety, Delhi has announced a comprehensive citywide fire safety audit covering all establishments, including those operating within residential areas. The initiative marks a shift toward a more inclusive and preventive safety framework aimed at minimizing fire risks across the capital.

Comprehensive Audit Across All Establishments

Under the directive issued by Minister Ashish Sood, every establishment—irrespective of its location—must comply with prescribed fire safety norms. Notably, businesses functioning within residential zones, which have often escaped routine inspections, will now come under strict scrutiny.

To ensure transparency and effectiveness, third-party experts have been engaged to map and audit establishments across the city. These independent assessments are expected to provide accurate compliance evaluations and flag areas that require urgent corrective action.

Focus on Prevention Over Reaction

The initiative reflects a strategic shift from reactive firefighting measures to proactive risk prevention. By identifying potential hazards in advance and enforcing compliance, authorities aim to significantly reduce the likelihood of fire-related incidents.

The inclusion of residential business clusters is particularly crucial, as such areas frequently host small-scale commercial operations that may overlook essential safety protocols. Expanding audits to these zones strengthens the city’s overall safety net.

Towards a Safer, Future-Ready City

The citywide fire audit is part of a broader vision to build a resilient and secure urban ecosystem. By integrating safety into everyday operations and ensuring adherence to standards, the government aims to eliminate long-standing safety blind spots.

The initiative is also expected to boost awareness among business owners and residents about fire safety best practices, while reinforcing accountability through stricter compliance requirements.

Overall, the move represents a significant step toward ensuring that every workplace and household in Delhi is better protected, paving the way for a safer and more future-ready city.
