A tragic road accident on the Yamuna Expressway claimed one life after a speeding pickup vehicle rammed into a truck on Friday morning. The collision was so severe that the pickup’s bonnet reportedly got lodged nearly six feet inside the rear portion of the truck. The incident created panic on the expressway and temporarily disrupted traffic movement.
According to preliminary reports, the pickup vehicle was moving at nearly 120 kmph when the driver lost control and crashed into the truck ahead. The impact completely damaged the front portion of the pickup vehicle. Passersby immediately informed the police and emergency response teams after witnessing the accident.
Police And Rescue Teams Reached Spot Quickly
Soon after receiving information, local police and Yamuna Expressway rescue teams reached the accident site. Rescuers had to struggle to pull the driver out of the mangled vehicle due to the severe damage caused by the impact. The injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Traffic movement on one lane of the expressway remained affected for some time after the crash. Police and rescue officials later cleared the damaged vehicles and restored normal traffic flow. Eyewitnesses said the sound of the collision was extremely loud and could be heard from a considerable distance.
Overspeeding Suspected As Major Cause
Initial investigation suggests overspeeding was the primary reason behind the accident. Police officials stated that the driver possibly failed to judge the distance from the truck ahead in time, leading to the fatal collision. Overspeeding continues to remain one of the biggest causes of accidents on high-speed expressways across the region.
Road safety experts say maintaining a safe distance while driving on expressways is extremely important. Drivers often increase speed on long and open highways, which significantly raises the risk of deadly crashes.
Rising Concerns Over Expressway Accidents
The Yamuna Expressway has witnessed several serious road accidents in recent years due to speeding and negligence. Despite strict speed regulations, many drivers continue to violate traffic rules. Authorities and expressway management teams have been running awareness campaigns and increasing enforcement measures to improve road safety.
Several major accidents reported on the expressway in recent months have resulted in multiple fatalities. Experts believe stricter compliance with speed limits and responsible driving practices are essential to reduce the rising number of road accidents on high-speed corridors like the Yamuna Expressway.
