Noida:
Amid ongoing tensions over the issue of stray dogs, the Noida Authority has initiated a major step to regulate dog feeding across the city. Following the Supreme Court’s order dated August 22, the authority has begun the process of installing designated dog feeding point boards throughout Noida.
Under the new arrangement, stray dogs will be fed only at identified and fixed locations. The authority plans to install boards at approximately 1,200 designated feeding points across the city to ensure systematic and controlled feeding practices.
The move comes in response to increasing disputes between residents and animal feeders in various housing societies and public areas. By marking specific feeding spots, officials aim to reduce conflicts, maintain hygiene, and ensure compliance with judicial directives.
According to officials, the Supreme Court’s August 22 order laid down guidelines regarding the feeding of stray dogs, directing authorities to create designated areas to balance animal welfare concerns with public safety and civic order. In line with this directive, the Noida Authority has started identifying suitable spots across sectors and residential areas.
The boards will clearly indicate approved feeding zones, ensuring that food is provided to stray dogs only at these marked locations. Authorities believe this will help prevent feeding in common pathways, children’s play areas, parks, or near building entrances, which have been frequent points of dispute.
The responsibility for implementation will not rest solely with the authority. Apartment Owners Associations (AOAs) and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will also be entrusted with ensuring adherence to the designated feeding system within their respective sectors and societies.
Officials stated that AOAs and RWAs will be expected to coordinate with residents and feeders to make sure feeding activities take place only at approved spots. They may also assist in identifying appropriate locations that minimize inconvenience while ensuring animals are not deprived of food.
The decision has been taken to bring clarity and structure to the issue, which has led to repeated complaints and disagreements in several parts of the city. In recent months, multiple incidents involving confrontations between dog feeders and other residents have been reported.
Authorities emphasized that the objective is not to discourage feeding but to regulate it in an organized manner that maintains civic harmony. By allocating specific feeding zones, the administration aims to create a balanced approach that addresses both humanitarian concerns and public safety.
The installation of 1,200 feeding boards will be carried out in phases. Officials said that priority areas include densely populated residential sectors where complaints have been more frequent.
The authority has urged residents to cooperate with the new system and strictly follow the designated guidelines. Feeding outside approved points may attract action under municipal regulations, officials indicated.
The move is expected to streamline dog feeding practices and reduce confusion regarding permissible locations. By clearly marking feeding points, the authority hopes to minimize friction between residents and ensure peaceful coexistence.
Further monitoring mechanisms may be introduced to evaluate the effectiveness of the initiative once the boards are installed citywide.
The Noida Authority has reiterated its commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s directions while maintaining law and order and ensuring the welfare of stray animals.
