External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India’s resolute stance against terrorism, emphasizing the nation’s firm response to past terror attacks during an event in Mumbai. Speaking at an event titled ‘India’s Vishwabandhu Approach to Global Relations’ at the Constitution Club, S Jaishankar underscored India’s message against terrorism, particularly in the aftermath of incidents like the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Highlighting the contrast in responses, S Jaishankar referenced the surgical strikes and airstrikes carried out by India following the Uri and Pulwama terror attacks. He emphasized that India’s actions sent a clear message to perpetrators that they would be targeted regardless of their location across borders.
The minister reflected on the global reaction to India’s responses, noting the sympathy expressed after 26/11 but also the apprehension about escalating tensions with Pakistan. S Jaishankar attributed this to India’s failure to effectively lobby against terrorism and convey its global threat.
S Jaishankar further elaborated on the importance of garnering international support for India’s stance, referring to the concept of ‘Vishwa Bandhu’ or a global friend. He emphasized the need for India to convince the world of the danger posed by terrorism and the importance of collective action against it.
Earlier in the day, S Jaishankar engaged with investors, students, and social media influencers, advocating for a strong and experienced government to navigate the complexities of the global landscape. He highlighted the progress made by India in the last decade and underscored the importance of informed decision-making for the nation’s continued development.
