The Aadi Mahotsav 2025, a grand festival celebrating India’s rich tribal heritage, is set to take place from February 16 to 24, 2025, at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. Organized by the Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the festival aims to showcase the vibrant culture, traditions, and economic potential of India’s tribal communities.
The event will be inaugurated by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, who will grace the occasion as the chief guest. The festival will witness the participation of over 600 tribal artisans, 500 performing artists, and 25 food stalls, representing the diverse traditions of more than 30 states and union territories. The initiative provides a significant platform for tribal communities to exhibit their skills, promote their indigenous products, and connect with modern consumers, thereby fostering economic empowerment.
Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, who has been closely monitoring the preparations, emphasized the festival’s significance in bridging the gap between traditional art forms and contemporary markets. He stated that the Aadi Mahotsav is not just a cultural festival but a larger movement aimed at uplifting tribal communities by providing them with economic opportunities. Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durga Das Uikey echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the festival’s role in opening national and international markets for tribal artisans and helping them secure sustainable livelihoods.
One of the key attractions of the festival will be live demonstrations by artisans, allowing visitors to witness traditional craftsmanship firsthand. The event will also feature collaborations with 20 public sector undertakings, aiming to facilitate tribal entrepreneurs’ integration into the mainstream economy. More than 25 memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed during the festival, further strengthening the commercial prospects for tribal products.
International delegations from Sri Lanka and Indonesia will participate in the event, adding a global dimension to the celebration. Additionally, partnerships with organizations such as the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations and the National Educational Society for Tribal Students are designed to promote tribal culinary traditions and enhance educational capacity-building initiatives.
Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs Vibhu Nayar and Managing Director of the Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited Ashish Chatterjee have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the success of Aadi Mahotsav 2025. They urged the public to support and appreciate the extraordinary craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage of India’s tribal communities. The festival is expected to attract thousands of visitors, fostering deeper appreciation and economic opportunities for indigenous artisans and performers.
