Mihir Shah, the prime suspect in a tragic hit-and-run incident involving a BMW that claimed the life of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa, has confessed to being a habitual drinker during police interrogation. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 6 when Shah allegedly struck Nakhwa and her husband Pradip Nakhwa while they were on their two-wheeler in Mumbai.
Mihir Shah, 24, was apprehended after a meticulous police operation that spanned multiple days and involved tracking him to an apartment in Virar, approximately 65 km from Mumbai. Initial investigations revealed Mihir Shah attempted to disguise himself by shaving his beard and cutting his hair at a local barber shop in Virar. The barber’s statement was recorded by police officials as part of the ongoing investigation.
Son of prominent politician Rajesh Shah, a member of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, Mihir Shah managed to evade authorities for three days before being located through the activation of a friend’s mobile phone. Police efforts intensified after CCTV footage from the scene of the crime depicted Mihir Shah switching seats with another individual, pulling Kaveri Nakhwa’s body from underneath the BMW, and abandoning it on the road before fleeing.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about alcohol-related driving offenses and the consequences of such actions. Kaveri Nakhwa’s death and her husband’s injuries have underscored the need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures and legal consequences for offenders.
Mihir Shah now faces charges related to drunk driving, hit-and-run resulting in death, and attempting to evade justice. The case has drawn significant public attention, prompting discussions on accountability and justice for victims of road accidents caused by irresponsible behavior.
Authorities continue to gather evidence and statements as they prepare the case against Mihir Shah, while the community mourns the loss of Kaveri Nakhwa and supports her family during this difficult time.
