Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the Urban Development Year 2025 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, marking two decades of significant progress in the state’s urban transformation. This event will highlight Gujarat’s continued commitment to sustainable urban growth, clean energy, and infrastructure innovation. The launch will include the inauguration of key projects across urban development, healthcare, and water supply, as well as the introduction of Gujarat’s new State Clean Air Programme aimed at improving air quality through a multi-sectoral approach.
Urban Development Milestones and Initiatives
The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, will bring together top government officials, urban planners, and stakeholders to chart the next phase of Gujarat’s urban strategy. PM Narendra Modi will lay foundation stones and inaugurate several critical projects that reflect the state’s integrated approach to urban growth. A major highlight will be the launch of the State Clean Air Programme, which addresses air pollution challenges with collaborative efforts across various sectors, reinforcing Gujarat’s dedication to clean and sustainable urban living.
Another significant development will be the inauguration of the Indian Railways’ new Locomotive Manufacturing Plant at Dahod. This advanced facility is designed to produce 9000 HP electric locomotives, boosting India’s rail freight capacity and supporting the Make in India initiative. The Prime Minister will also flag off the first electric locomotive manufactured at the plant, signaling a major leap toward modernizing rail infrastructure and promoting green mobility.
Housing and Infrastructure Development
In addition to industrial and environmental projects, the event will focus on housing and urban welfare. Over 22,000 housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) will be allocated to beneficiaries, providing affordable homes for many families. Furthermore, Rs 3,300 crore will be disbursed to urban local bodies under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, supporting ongoing and future urban development projects across Gujarat.
This comprehensive initiative underscores Gujarat’s model of urban planning that balances innovation with sustainability. It aligns with India’s broader vision to build world-class infrastructure, advance green mobility, and improve quality of life in urban centers.
