The Noida Metropolitan unit of the Samajwadi Party organised a commemorative programme to mark the birth anniversary of revolutionary educationist Savitribai Phule at the party’s metropolitan office in A Square Mall, Sector 73, Noida. Party leaders and workers gathered in large numbers to honour her contribution to social reform, women’s empowerment, and the promotion of education among marginalised communities.
Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Savitribai Phule, and speakers highlighted her lifelong struggle against social evils such as caste discrimination, gender inequality, and oppressive traditions. The event reflected the party’s continued focus on social justice, equality, and education as instruments of social transformation.
Savitribai Phule’s Contribution to Education and Social Reform
Addressing the gathering, Noida Metropolitan President Ashray Gupta said that Savitribai Phule was a pioneering educationist who opened the doors of education for Dalit women at a time when society was deeply entrenched in caste and gender-based discrimination. He emphasised that education remains the most powerful tool for social change and that only through education can social evils be effectively challenged and eliminated.
He further highlighted that Phule dedicated her entire life to awakening marginalised communities and raising their voice against injustice. Her work continues to inspire movements aimed at empowering deprived sections and ensuring dignity and equal opportunities for all.
Voice Against Social Evils and Discrimination
Provincial Secretary Sunil Chaudhary and Mukesh Yadav noted that Savitribai Phule fearlessly opposed practices such as child marriage, the Sati system, and caste-based discrimination. They added that she actively supported widow remarriage and inter-caste marriages, challenging entrenched social norms.
They emphasised that her reformist efforts laid the foundation for progressive social thinking in India and inspired future generations to question inequality and injustice. Her life remains a powerful example of courage and commitment to social reform.
Facing Opposition with Determination
Media In-charge Gaurav Kumar Yadav and Virpal Pradhan recalled that when Savitribai Phule began educating Dalit women, she faced strong resistance from orthodox and feudal elements of society. She was subjected to verbal abuse, stone-throwing, and attempts to intimidate her work.
Despite such hostility, Phule never wavered from her mission. Her determination and resilience enabled her to continue working for the upliftment of Dalits and women, making her a symbol of courage and perseverance.
Commitment to Dalit Upliftment
Ambedkar Vahini President Harpal Singh and Ram Saheli said that Phule consistently carried forward her mission for Dalit and oppressed communities’ upliftment. Her struggle extended beyond education to promoting self-respect, equality, and human rights awareness.
