National, May 1, 2026:
In a major boost to aviation infrastructure in North India, Noida International Airport (NIA) has announced that commercial flight operations will commence from June 15, 2026. The launch will mark the beginning of passenger and cargo services at one of India’s most ambitious greenfield airport projects, creating a new aviation gateway for the National Capital Region and surrounding areas.
The announcement follows the formal inauguration of the airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year, along with the successful approval of the Aerodrome Security Program (ASP) by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. The approval confirms that the airport’s security systems, operational procedures, and infrastructure comply with all regulatory standards required for commercial operations.
Officials stated that IndiGo will operate the first flight from Noida International Airport, marking the official start of scheduled passenger services. This will be followed by operations from Akasa Air and Air India Express, with additional details regarding routes, schedules, and services expected to be announced soon.
The airport has been developed to meet the rapidly growing demand for air travel in the region and is equipped with modern terminal infrastructure, efficient operational systems, and strong multimodal connectivity. Authorities emphasized that the design of the airport focuses on providing a seamless passenger experience while also supporting airlines with cost-efficient and reliable operations.
The launch of commercial services is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, providing improved access to domestic and international destinations. It is also anticipated to play a key role in boosting economic growth by facilitating tourism, trade, logistics, and investment opportunities across Uttar Pradesh and the wider northern region.
Noida International Airport, with IATA code DXN, is designed to serve the greater Delhi area and Western Uttar Pradesh, connecting it to major cities in India and across the world. The airport aims to combine global standards of efficiency with a passenger-centric approach, offering a wide range of services and commercial facilities.
The project is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. The development is being carried out under a public-private partnership model in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India.
The concession period for the airport began on October 1, 2021, and will continue for 40 years. In its initial phase, the airport includes one runway and one passenger terminal with a capacity to handle approximately 12 million passengers annually. Future expansion plans under the masterplan aim to scale up the airport’s capacity to over 70 million passengers per year.
Officials also highlighted that sustainability is a core focus of the project. The airport is committed to achieving net-zero emissions through environmentally responsible design and operational practices, making it one of the most forward-looking aviation developments in the country.
The commencement of operations at Noida International Airport is expected to reduce congestion at existing airports in the Delhi-NCR region while offering passengers a modern, efficient, and well-connected alternative.
With its strategic location, advanced infrastructure, and strong airline partnerships, the airport is set to emerge as a major aviation hub in India, supporting long-term economic growth and enhancing the region’s global connectivity.
