23 March 2026, Noida.
Noida Authority has been honored at the international level for its work in water management and reuse. It has been selected as a winner under the “Municipal Water Reuse Initiative” category at the World Water Award 2025-26, supported jointly by the Government of India and UNESCO. The award was presented on March 23, 2026 at a ceremony held in New Delhi. Union Minister for Jal Shakti C R Patil and Minister of State Raj Bhushan Choudhary were present as chief guests. On behalf of Noida Authority, Additional CEO Satish Pal and General Manager Water R P Singh received the award along with their team. This recognition highlights the authority’s commitment to sustainable urban water management practices.
Efficient Use of Treated Water Recognized
Noida Authority currently produces around 260 MLD of treated water through its sewage treatment plants. A significant portion of this water is being reused for multiple purposes, contributing to water conservation and groundwater recharge. Approximately 90 MLD of treated water is being used for irrigation of green belts, parks, golf courses, wetlands, construction activities, firefighting, ponds and road sprinkling. This initiative has helped reduce dependency on fresh water resources while promoting environmental sustainability. Officials stated that the model is emerging as a benchmark for urban water reuse systems.
Wetland Development Boosts Ecology
A major achievement under this initiative is the development of a wetland in Sector 54 using 20 MLD of treated water. This project has transformed a waste site into a thriving ecological zone that now supports various aquatic species and biodiversity. The wetland not only enhances environmental sustainability but also contributes to improving the city’s green infrastructure. Authorities aim to replicate such projects to further strengthen ecological balance and urban resilience.
Future Plans to Expand Water Reuse
The authority has set a target to increase the use of treated water to 125 MLD by the financial year 2026-27. Plans are underway to expand reuse applications and develop additional infrastructure for efficient water management. Officials emphasized that continued focus on water reuse and conservation will play a key role in addressing urban water challenges and ensuring sustainable development.
This award marks a significant milestone for Noida Authority and reflects its commitment to innovative and sustainable water management practices.
