Gautam Buddh Nagar, April 6, 2026
In a major joint operation, the Supply Department and Police Department carried out a raid against illegal LPG refilling activities in the Dadri area of Gautam Buddh Nagar. The action was taken on April 4 at around 5:00 PM at a residence located in Natthu Chowk, Tulsi Vihar Colony.
According to District Supply Officer Smriti Gautam, the joint team raided the house of Vinay Kumar, son of Surajpal, where illegal refilling of domestic LPG cylinders into smaller cylinders was being carried out. During the raid, officials recovered multiple gas cylinders and equipment used in the illegal operation.
The seized items included two filled domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) belonging to Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), bearing serial numbers 43123S and 44783. Additionally, two empty domestic cylinders (14.2 kg) with serial numbers 576269T and 134136S were also recovered.
Further, six empty domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) of Indane (IOCL) with serial numbers 61154, 433751S, 250907S, 71529T, 042780T, and 260850 were found at the location. Three empty domestic cylinders (14.2 kg) of Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), bearing serial numbers 171514T, 101531S, and 55382, were also seized.
Apart from the cylinders, officials recovered one 5 kg non-ISI marked small cylinder and several tools used in the illegal refilling process. These included an electronic weighing machine, a refilling nozzle machine made of iron and brass, and a rubber pipe approximately one meter long with a regulator. All the seized materials have been taken into custody as evidence for further legal proceedings.
During the investigation, it was found that Vinay Kumar was illegally transferring LPG gas from domestic cylinders into smaller non-ISI cylinders for financial gain. This unauthorized activity was being carried out in a residential area, raising serious safety concerns for nearby residents. Officials highlighted that such practices are extremely hazardous, as improper handling of LPG cylinders can lead to gas leaks, fires, or even explosions, putting lives and property at risk.
Authorities also noted that illegal refilling not only compromises public safety but also disrupts the regulated supply chain of LPG, which is meant for domestic consumers under government guidelines. Diverting subsidized or regulated gas for unauthorized commercial use leads to shortages and inconvenience for genuine consumers who depend on these essential services.
Officials emphasized that strict monitoring is being carried out across the district to curb such illegal activities. They warned that any individual found involved in unauthorized LPG handling or refilling operations will face stringent legal action.
Authorities stated that this act is a violation of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000 (as amended), and is punishable under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, specifically Sections 3 and 7.
A case has been registered at Dadri Police Station against Vinay Kumar, a resident of Village Paisai, Police Station Nidhouli Kalan, District Etah, currently residing in Tulsi Vihar, Natthu Chowk, Dadri, along with other individuals involved in the illegal operation. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation is underway.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against illegal activities that threaten public safety and disrupt essential commodity distribution systems. They also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to LPG misuse so that prompt action can be taken.
