Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh | Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, marking a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure development. The event also turned into a political platform, with the Prime Minister making pointed remarks aimed at the opposition, particularly Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized the rapid pace of development in the state under the “double-engine government,” referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led governments at both the Centre and the state. He highlighted that projects like the Jewar airport symbolize a new era of growth, connectivity, and investment in Uttar Pradesh, especially in the western region.
Without directly naming Akhilesh Yadav, Modi took a swipe at the long-standing political narrative often referred to as the “Noida jinx” or “Noida fear,” which had been associated with political hesitations in visiting or promoting development in the region. He suggested that such apprehensions have now been replaced by confidence and progress, indicating a shift in governance and political culture.
The Prime Minister also underlined that Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a major hub for infrastructure and economic activity, attracting both domestic and global investors. He noted that improved law and order, better connectivity, and policy support have played a key role in transforming the state’s image.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav responded to the Prime Minister’s remarks, launching a counterattack on the government’s claims. He questioned the ground realities of development and accused the ruling dispensation of exaggerating achievements. Yadav reiterated that issues such as employment, farmer concerns, and regional disparities remain unresolved.
Political observers believe that the inauguration of the Noida International Airport is not just an infrastructure milestone but also a strategic political move. With western Uttar Pradesh being a crucial electoral region, the event provided an opportunity for both the ruling party and the opposition to shape their narratives ahead of upcoming elections.
The Jewar airport project is expected to boost connectivity in the National Capital Region and beyond, while also creating employment opportunities and supporting economic growth.
