New Delhi, January 14, 2026
Strengthening neighbourhood-level healthcare infrastructure, the Delhi Government on Tuesday inaugurated a new Arogya Mandir in Janakpuri’s C-2 Block. The facility was inaugurated by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, who said the centre would provide comprehensive primary healthcare services free of cost to local residents. This is the second Arogya Mandir to become operational in the Janakpuri area.
Addressing residents after the inauguration, Sood said the newly opened Arogya Mandir reflects the Delhi Government’s renewed commitment to public health and accessible healthcare. He stated that the facility will play a key role in ensuring that basic medical services are available close to people’s homes, reducing dependence on large hospitals for minor ailments.
The Education Minister informed that the health centre has been functioning since 1996, but concerns had earlier been raised by local residents regarding the installation of a mobile tower on the premises. According to him, there was apprehension among citizens, particularly with regard to the treatment and safety of newborn children. Respecting public sentiment, the government ensured the removal of the tower and subsequently upgraded the centre with modern medical facilities, transforming it into a full-fledged Arogya Mandir.
Sood said that the upgraded Arogya Mandir now offers 13 types of diagnostic tests free of cost, including tests for blood sugar and haemoglobin. In addition, 108 essential medicines are being provided without charge to patients visiting the facility. He said these services are aimed at early detection and timely treatment of common health conditions, especially among senior citizens, women and economically weaker sections.
A major expansion at the Janakpuri Arogya Mandir is the introduction of free vaccination for all citizens. Earlier, immunisation services at the centre were limited to children and pregnant women. With the new arrangement, vaccination facilities will now be available to people of all age groups, further strengthening preventive healthcare in the area.
The Education Minister said the Arogya Mandir will remain open daily from 9 am to 3 pm without any lunch break, ensuring uninterrupted services to patients. He said the extended and continuous working hours are intended to make healthcare more accessible, particularly for working individuals and elderly residents who often find it difficult to visit hospitals during limited time slots.
Highlighting the government’s healthcare philosophy, Sood said that the focus is on prevention rather than cure. He noted that with facilities such as Arogya Mandirs, residents of Janakpuri will no longer need to visit major hospitals for minor illnesses and routine check-ups. “Small health issues can now be addressed at the neighbourhood level itself, saving time and effort for patients,” he said.
Sood also said that parallel efforts are underway to strengthen secondary and tertiary healthcare in the capital. He added that the Delhi Government is working towards upgrading Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital into a fully equipped super-specialty hospital, which will further enhance advanced medical care facilities for residents of West Delhi and nearby areas.
The Education Minister informed that keeping public convenience in mind, additional Arogya Mandirs are being developed in several nearby localities of Janakpuri. These include areas such as C-Block, A-Block, C-4A, C-4B, C-4C, C-4D, and GH Block. He said the expansion of Arogya Mandirs in these neighbourhoods will ensure that a larger population has easy access to free primary healthcare services.
Looking ahead, Sood said similar facilities will soon be started in Mahavir Enclave, Milap Nagar and other adjoining areas. He said the aim is to create a strong network of Arogya Mandirs across Delhi so that no resident has to travel long distances for basic medical care.
Appealing to residents, the Education Minister urged people to make maximum use of the healthcare services available at the Arogya Mandir. He specifically encouraged families to bring elderly members for regular health check-ups and take advantage of free diagnostic tests, medicines and vaccination services being provided by the government.
He said the success of such initiatives depends not only on government efforts but also on public participation. By actively using these facilities, residents can help promote a culture of preventive healthcare and early diagnosis, which ultimately reduces the burden on larger hospitals.
The inauguration of the Janakpuri Arogya Mandir marks another step in the Delhi Government’s efforts to strengthen grassroots healthcare infrastructure. With free consultations, diagnostics, medicines and vaccination services now available locally, the centre is expected to significantly improve healthcare access and outcomes for residents of the area.
