The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has decided to intensify its campaign against illegal drugs, narcotics, and substance abuse by strengthening enforcement actions and expanding public awareness initiatives across the district. During a review meeting of the Narcotics Coordination Center held at the Collectorate auditorium, officials from multiple departments reviewed ongoing anti-drug operations, enforcement drives, and awareness campaigns aimed at curbing the spread of illegal intoxicants.
Chairing the meeting, Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Atul Kumar directed all concerned departments to work with stronger coordination, vigilance, and accountability to make the anti-drug campaign more effective. Authorities were instructed to ensure strict action against individuals involved in illegal liquor trade, narcotics trafficking, and other forms of substance abuse networks.
Stronger Action Planned Against Drug Networks
A major focus of the meeting was the prevention of illegal drug sales, trafficking, and distribution activities across the district. Officials were instructed to identify sensitive areas and conduct intensive operations against suspected illegal activities.
The administration made it clear that negligence in dealing with narcotics-related crimes would not be tolerated. Authorities emphasized the need for regular inspections, coordinated raids, and continuous surveillance to dismantle organized illegal drug networks operating in the region.
District Excise Officer Subodh Kumar informed the committee that the excise department, in coordination with the police, has been carrying out continuous enforcement operations in different areas. Special checking drives are being conducted to monitor suspicious activities and take action against those involved in illegal narcotics trade.
Officials also confirmed that surveillance has been increased in sensitive zones and joint inspection teams are actively monitoring high-risk areas.
Awareness Campaigns to Focus on Youth
Apart from enforcement measures, the administration also emphasized the importance of public awareness in building a drug-free society. Officials were instructed to organize awareness programs in schools, colleges, and public places to educate young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Authorities believe that spreading awareness among students and youth is essential to preventing addiction and reducing the long-term social impact of narcotics abuse. Plans are being prepared to conduct educational sessions in institutions where experts and officials will interact directly with students.
The administration is also planning to increase outreach campaigns in markets, residential areas, and rural regions so that anti-drug awareness messages reach all sections of society.
Strict Monitoring Near Educational Institutions
During the meeting, officials were directed to ensure strict monitoring around schools and colleges to prevent the sale of gutkha, cigarettes, and other intoxicating substances near educational institutions.
Authorities stated that the sale of such products near schools poses a serious threat to the future of young students. Police, excise officials, and other enforcement agencies have been instructed to carry out regular inspections and take strict legal action against violators.
Officials were also told to respond immediately to any reports of suspicious activity or illegal sales in sensitive areas.
Officials From Multiple Departments Attended Meeting
The review meeting was attended by officers from several departments including Assistant Commissioner of State Tax Shikha Singh, District Tobacco Control Cell official Shweta Khurana, Narcotics Control Bureau Sub-Inspector Kanhaiya Lal Gupta, Police Inspector Arvind Kumar, DRS department representative Deepak, along with officials from intelligence, forest, and excise departments.
Through the meeting, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration sent a clear message that the campaign against illegal drugs and narcotics will be expanded further with stricter enforcement and wider public participation. The administration aims not only to strengthen legal action but also to build a more aware and drug-free society through coordinated community efforts.
