Gautam Buddh Nagar, 16 January 2026
In view of the increasing incidents of dense fog across the district, which significantly reduces visibility and raises the risk of road accidents, the district administration has issued a public advisory in the interest of citizen safety. Acting on the directions of Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) Atul Kumar, District Disaster Expert Omkar Chaturvedi informed that an advisory outlining what to do and what not to do has been released for public awareness.
He stated that during periods of dense fog, reduced visibility makes driving and outdoor movement hazardous. Therefore, alertness, precaution and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.

Alertness During Fog Is the Key to Safety
Relief Measures
Reduce Speed: Driving at high speed during fog makes vehicle control difficult. Vehicles should always be driven at a slow and controlled speed.
Use Low Beam or Fog Lights: Fog lights or low-beam headlights must be used in foggy conditions. High beams should be avoided as they reduce visibility further.
Maintain Safe Distance: Adequate distance should be maintained from the vehicle moving ahead to avoid collisions in case of sudden braking.
Avoid Lane Changes: Unnecessary overtaking and frequent lane changes should be avoided, as they increase the chances of accidents.
Use Indicators and Horn Properly: Indicators and horn should be used correctly at turns, intersections and before overtaking.
Stop If Required: If visibility becomes extremely poor, vehicles should be stopped at a safe place until conditions improve.
What to Do and What Not to Do During Winter
What to Do

Wear Warm Clothing: Multiple layers of clothing should be worn. Caps, mufflers and socks are essential to protect the body from cold.
Consume Hot Food and Beverages: Soup, warm water and herbal tea help keep the body warm during cold weather.
Sit in Sunlight: Mild morning sunlight provides Vitamin D and helps strengthen immunity.
Take Care of Elderly and Children: Special attention should be given to elderly persons and children. Ensure they are adequately clothed and protected from cold.
What Not to Do
Do Not Wear Light Clothing: Wearing light clothes can cause excessive cold exposure, especially affecting the head, ears and feet.
Avoid Cold Food and Drinks: Cold water and cold food items may increase the risk of cold, cough and flu.
Do Not Use Heaters or Fire Pots in Closed Rooms: Using heaters or angithi in closed spaces can lead to carbon monoxide accumulation, posing a serious risk of suffocation.

Do Not Reduce Water Intake: Even during winter, proper hydration is essential. Drink sufficient water regularly.
If You Feel Cold, Light a Bonfire… but Maintain Distance and Ensure Safety
What to Do (Do’s)
Light bonfires only in open and well-ventilated areas so that smoke does not accumulate.
Use dry wood only. Plastic or garbage should not be burned under any circumstances.
Maintain a safe distance around the bonfire, especially for elderly people and children.
Keep water or sand nearby so that the fire can be extinguished immediately if it spreads.
What Not to Do (Don’ts)
Do not light bonfires in crowded or enclosed places.
Do not keep flammable materials such as petrol, diesel or sprays near the bonfire.
Do not attempt to dry clothes too close to the fire, as they may catch fire.

Strengthen Your Immunity During Winter: Are You Following These Steps?
Consume a Balanced and Nutritious Diet: Include seasonal fruits and vegetables, amla, ginger, garlic, turmeric and protein-rich food in daily meals.
Exercise Regularly and Get Sunlight: Light exercise, yoga and daily exposure to sunlight help maintain Vitamin D levels, which are essential for strong immunity.
Ensure Adequate Sleep and Stress Management: Take 7–8 hours of deep sleep and avoid stress. Proper rest strengthens the immune system.
Maintain Hygiene and Adequate Fluid Intake: Wash hands regularly, drink warm water and consume herbal decoctions or soup to keep the body hydrated and protected from infections.
