Dedicated Bus Service Between Badarpur Border Metro Station and Surajkund Mela Grounds
Eco-Friendly Connectivity for Domestic and International Tourists
New Delhi: In view of the upcoming Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026, the Delhi Government has announced a special dedicated bus service to provide safe, affordable and convenient transportation for the large number of visitors expected during the event. Recognised as one of India’s largest cultural and handicrafts festivals, the Surajkund Mela attracts lakhs of domestic visitors, artisans, families and international tourists every year.
To avoid inconvenience caused by overcrowding and overcharging by private vehicles, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will operate this special service on an experimental basis from January 31 to February 15, 2026. Since the mela venue falls within Haryana’s jurisdiction, the DTC has coordinated with the Haryana Transport Department to ensure smooth inter-state operations.
Under the initiative, two 9-metre electric buses will operate on the route between Badarpur Border Metro Station and Surajkund Mela Grounds, covering a distance of approximately 4 kilometres. The route will pass through Badarpur Metro Station, Badarpur Border, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Prahladpur, Surajkund Chowk and Manav Rachna School, ensuring seamless last-mile connectivity for commuters arriving by metro. The use of electric buses will help reduce congestion and promote sustainable mobility.
The bus service will run at frequent intervals throughout the day. From Badarpur Border Metro Station to Surajkund Mela, buses will operate between 10:00 AM and 2:35 PM, while return services from Surajkund Mela to Badarpur Border Metro Station will run between 10:20 AM and 2:55 PM. Detailed schedules will be displayed at metro stations, bus stops and within the mela premises for passenger convenience.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve accessibility to the mela, encourage the use of public transport, reduce traffic congestion in the area and provide a safe and economical travel option for thousands of visitors each day.
Reacting to the development, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Transport Minister, Delhi, said that the Surajkund Mela is a proud cultural celebration that draws visitors from across India and around the world. He stated that the government’s priority is to ensure reliable, affordable and hassle-free public transport for all visitors. The dedicated DTC bus service will provide seamless last-mile connectivity from the metro station to the mela grounds while promoting clean and eco-friendly mobility.
