Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a grant of ₹1,200 crore to provide relief to thousands of Delhi Transport Corporation employees and pensioners, while also strengthening the city’s transport infrastructure through modern technology.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, out of the total sanctioned amount, ₹1,100 crore has been allocated directly for the payment of salaries, pensions, and other financial liabilities of DTC employees and pensioners. The government stated that the allocation aims to ensure timely and uninterrupted payments, safeguarding the financial security of serving and retired staff.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that DTC and its workforce form the backbone of Delhi’s public transport system. The decision, she emphasized, is not merely a financial grant but a gesture of respect and gratitude toward employees who keep the capital moving in all conditions.
Along with employee welfare, the government has earmarked ₹100 crore for the modernisation of transport services. This includes the implementation of Advanced Traffic Systems to improve traffic flow and enhance efficiency through the use of modern technology.
The funds will also support the development of commercial electric vehicle charging infrastructure under the Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment. The initiative is aimed at promoting cleaner mobility and reducing pollution levels in the national capital.
The Chief Minister reiterated that DTC is not just a fleet of buses but a lifeline for millions of Delhi residents. Drivers, conductors, and other staff work round the clock to ensure smooth transportation across the city.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that senior pensioners and current employees never have to wait for their rightful earnings, while simultaneously moving Delhi toward a safe, sustainable, and world-class transport system.
