New Delhi, January 14, 2026
Strengthening primary healthcare and social welfare services in North-West Delhi, the Delhi Government on Tuesday inaugurated two Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the Bawana Assembly constituency and distributed assistive devices to around 150 senior citizens. The initiatives were led by Delhi’s Minister for Social Welfare and SC/ST/OBC Welfare and Bawana MLA Ravindra Indraj Singh, who said the government is committed to ensuring accessible healthcare and inclusive development at the grassroots level.
The newly inaugurated facilities include an Ayushman Arogya Mandir sub-centre in the Budh Vihar area of Pooth Kalan and the Dr Sahib Singh Verma Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Bawana. The inauguration ceremony was attended by former legislators, municipal councillors, administrative officials and a large number of local residents, reflecting strong community participation.
Addressing the gathering, Ravindra Indraj Singh said that after the formation of the new Delhi Government in February 2025 under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, one of the first major decisions was the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the capital. The objective, he said, was to ensure that quality healthcare services reach every citizen, especially those from economically weaker sections.
He explained that while the Ayushman Bharat scheme across the country provides health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh, the Delhi Government has enhanced this limit to ₹10 lakh for residents of the capital. This, he said, allows Delhiites to avail treatment at any empanelled hospital without financial burden, a step taken for the first time in the city.
The minister said healthcare expenses are often the biggest challenge for poor families, as a large portion of household income is spent on medical treatment. Keeping this in mind, the government is establishing a total of 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across Delhi. These centres, he said, are designed to reflect the spirit of inclusive development by delivering healthcare services to people at the very end of the social and economic spectrum.
Ravindra Indraj Singh said the Bawana Assembly constituency will have the highest number of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Delhi. The centres will benefit residents of Budh Vihar, Sultanpuri, Krishna Vihar and surrounding rural and urban colonies. He thanked the health department and concerned officials for selecting appropriate locations and developing the facilities in a well-planned manner to ensure maximum public benefit.
He highlighted that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are not limited to basic treatment alone, but also promote preventive healthcare. Services available at these centres include yoga sessions, primary medical care, free medicines and consultations with doctors. Yoga, he said, has been included to encourage a healthy lifestyle and reduce long-term dependence on medicines.
On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the minister said the festival symbolises respect for senior citizens, social harmony and Indian cultural values. As part of the event, assistive devices such as walking aids and other supportive equipment were distributed to around 150 elderly residents, aimed at improving their mobility and quality of life.
He also spoke about welfare initiatives undertaken by the Social Welfare Department in the Bawana constituency. According to him, more than 4,000 new old-age pensions have been approved so far, and efforts are being made to ensure that no eligible senior citizen is deprived of pension benefits.
Providing an overview of development works in the constituency, Ravindra Indraj Singh said projects worth over ₹1,100 crore are currently underway or have been approved in Bawana. These include beautification of cremation grounds, reconstruction of village chaupals, development of panchayat buildings, improvement of internal lanes and drainage systems, expansion of sewer networks, laying of water pipelines and construction of roads. He said these initiatives aim to ensure balanced development of both rural villages and urban colonies.
The minister also announced plans to develop two villages in the Bawana constituency as solar energy-based model villages. Work on the proposal, he said, is already underway. Once implemented, the initiative is expected to reduce electricity bills for residents and promote the use of clean and sustainable energy in the area.
Concluding his address, Ravindra Indraj Singh said his vision for Bawana is based on unity, inclusive growth and development without discrimination. He assured residents that with guidance from the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister and the combined efforts of the central and Delhi governments, welfare schemes and development projects will continue to reach people at the ground level.
The inauguration of the two Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and the distribution of assistive devices marked another step in the Delhi Government’s efforts to strengthen primary healthcare, support senior citizens and accelerate holistic development in the Bawana Assembly constituency.
