The first Budget session of the Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to commence today, March 24, marking a crucial moment for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government after its return to power in the national capital. The five-day session will begin at 11 AM with a ceremonial event, and the much-anticipated ‘Viksit Delhi’ Budget for 2025-26 will be presented tomorrow, March 25.
This budget is expected to emphasize key developmental areas, including infrastructure enhancement, pollution control measures, and the revival of the Yamuna River. Additionally, the session is likely to witness the tabling of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on the Delhi Transport Corporation for 2024.
The ongoing Budget session is particularly significant as it is the second session of the newly elected BJP government. The first session was conducted from February 24 to March 3. This budget will be crucial in shaping the administration’s vision for Delhi, especially as it marks the party’s return to governance after 27 years following the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections in 2025.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared insights into the upcoming budget, stating that it aims to prioritize economic empowerment, better education and healthcare services, improved infrastructure, and solutions to air pollution and waterlogging. She emphasized that the government engaged in extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including professionals, to gather feedback. According to her, 3,303 suggestions were received via email and 6,982 through WhatsApp, reflecting a broad engagement with the public in shaping budgetary priorities.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the budget will be designed to meet the essential needs of Delhi’s residents while focusing on employment generation. She also reaffirmed the Delhi government’s commitment to aligning its policies with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Delhi,’ ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth.
As the session unfolds, all eyes will be on the BJP-led government’s financial roadmap for the capital, particularly its strategies to address long-standing challenges and deliver on its development promises.
