New Delhi witnessed a focused outreach initiative as representatives from the transgender community engaged in a dialogue ahead of the upcoming Budget 2026. The interaction aimed to gather inputs to make the budget more inclusive and responsive to diverse social needs.
During the discussion, participants shared their experiences, concerns, and expectations, highlighting key areas such as employment opportunities, healthcare access, skill development, and social welfare. They emphasized the need for safe and dignified employment, more accessible and sensitive healthcare services, and enhanced training programs to improve employability.
Focus on Social Security and Documentation Ease
The community also stressed expanding the scope of social security schemes and simplifying identity and documentation processes. These measures, they noted, would help integrate transgender individuals into the social mainstream with dignity and equal opportunity.
The decision to provide free travel in DTC buses through the ‘Saheli Pink Card’ was welcomed, with participants describing it as a significant step toward financial relief and improved daily mobility.
Commitment to Inclusive Budgeting and Development
It was assured during the interaction that the suggestions received would be given due consideration in the upcoming budget. The objective is to prepare a budget that reflects the needs and aspirations of every section of society.
The discussion reinforced the view that the transgender community is an integral part of society, and ensuring their dignity, safety, and empowerment remains a key responsibility. Emphasis was placed on incorporating public feedback into policymaking to strengthen governance and inclusivity.
