Publication chronicles 100 years of legislative history; Assembly sets benchmarks in digital governance, sustainability, and heritage preservation

New Delhi, December 12, 2025: The Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Vijender Gupta, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament House on Friday. During the meeting, Gupta presented the Prime Minister with a specially curated Coffee Table Book titled “Delhi Legislative Assembly presents Shatabdi-Yatra, Veer Vithalbhai Patel”, dedicated to Veer Vithalbhai Patel, the first Indian elected Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly. The publication chronicles India’s parliamentary journey from 1925 to 2025.

Speaking about the book, Gupta said it provides a comprehensive account of a century of India’s legislative and democratic development. The volume compiles rare archival photographs, historic documents, and key events that have shaped Indian democracy over the past 100 years.

A significant section of the Coffee Table Book details the 2025 All India Speakers’ Conference, organised to commemorate 100 years since Veer Vithalbhai Patel became the first Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly. This historic milestone laid the foundation for modern parliamentary traditions in India and was celebrated as a tribute to Patel’s contribution to India’s democratic legacy.

During the meeting, Gupta also briefed Prime Minister Modi about the operational status of the Audit Para Monitoring System (APMS) in the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The system makes Delhi arguably the first state assembly in India to implement such a comprehensive real-time audit monitoring portal, enhancing transparency and accountability across government operations.

Gupta highlighted the transformative initiatives undertaken by the Delhi Assembly, including the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), which has enabled the Assembly to function as a fully digital and paperless legislature. He also noted the successful conversion of the Assembly into a fully solar-powered, green legislature, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable governance and environmental responsibility.

The Speaker informed the Prime Minister that the Delhi Legislative Assembly is set to be developed as a distinguished heritage site, aimed at preserving its rich democratic legacy for future generations. The initiative will open the historic complex to the general public, allowing citizens to experience firsthand the Assembly’s journey and its enduring contribution to India’s parliamentary and democratic framework.

Gupta emphasised that under Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership, India is setting new benchmarks in democratic values, good governance, technological adoption, and global cooperation. He noted that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to a prosperous, self-reliant, and developed India, while ensuring that democratic institutions remain transparent, efficient, and inclusive.

Officials observing the meeting stated that the Coffee Table Book not only commemorates a century of India’s parliamentary history but also serves as a symbol of the Assembly’s dedication to blending tradition with innovation. It is expected to function both as a scholarly resource and a public record celebrating the evolution of Indian democracy.

The meeting underscored the Delhi Assembly’s ongoing efforts to integrate technology, sustainability, and public engagement into legislative processes, positioning the institution as a model for state legislatures across the country. Gupta concluded by reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to preserving India’s parliamentary legacy for generations to come, while advancing modern, inclusive, and accountable democratic governance.
