Czech President Petr Pavel was admitted to a Prague hospital after a motorbike crash on Thursday, as confirmed by his office. Despite the incident, the 62-year-old’s injuries are reported to be “not serious”.
President Petr Pavel, who assumed office in March 2023, will undergo a short monitoring stay at Prague’s Military University Hospital, according to his office. Although the exact duration of his hospitalization remains unspecified, his spokesman Vit Kolar stated that Petr Pavel is expected to spend “several days” in the hospital, with minimal impact on his official schedule.
While plans for a trip abroad next week are uncertain, Petr Pavel’s office previously announced his intention to travel to Jordan. Additionally, he is scheduled to meet with NATO foreign ministers at an informal meeting in Prague next Thursday.
Reports indicate that the president’s crash occurred on a closed racing circuit, leading authorities to refrain from launching an investigation. Known for his enthusiasm as a motorcyclist, Petr Pavel was riding a BMW R1200 GS at the time of the accident.
This incident is not the first time Petr Pavel’s motorcycle hobby has made headlines. Last summer, he faced criticism after images emerged of him riding without a helmet.
