New Delhi, March 14, 2026:
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated several development projects in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency aimed at improving drainage infrastructure, easing traffic congestion, and strengthening public amenities in the area. During the visit, the Chief Minister also carried out surprise inspections of ongoing works and directed officials to ensure quality standards and timely completion of all projects.
Officials said the newly launched initiatives are expected to help reduce waterlogging during the monsoon season while improving roads, drainage systems, and local infrastructure.
One of the key projects inaugurated by the Chief Minister was the remodelling of the stormwater drain on Haiderpur Main Road. The project covers the stretch from the bus stand to DA Block in Shalimar Bagh and is being implemented under the New Master Drain Plan 2025. As part of the project, reinforced cement concrete (RCC) drains will be constructed to enhance the drainage system and improve water flow in the area.
During her visit, Rekha Gupta also reviewed the progress of several ongoing development works related to infrastructure improvement, drainage management, and public facilities. Officials informed that drainage improvement works have also been initiated on multiple roads including Road No. 319, RUB Shalimar Bagh, Chaudhary Mehr Chand Marg, Road No. 320, and Swami Shraddhanand Saraswati Marg.
To address traffic congestion and improve vehicle movement in the locality, the Chief Minister also launched the construction of a slip road at Shalimar Chowk. In addition, a new U-turn facility is being developed near the Road Under Bridge (RUB) to streamline traffic flow. Authorities believe that these initiatives will reduce congestion and ensure smoother and safer travel for commuters and residents.
During the program, Rekha Gupta also inaugurated an Ayushman Arogya Mandir at the Sahipur village chaupal. The facility is expected to provide essential primary healthcare services to residents of the area and improve access to basic medical treatment at the local level.
Officials stated that the new health centre will play an important role in strengthening primary healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that residents receive timely medical assistance without having to travel long distances.
In addition to these projects, the Chief Minister inaugurated the remodelling of existing stormwater drains on Bhagwan Mahavir Marg and K. L. Bagga Marg. Under this project, precast factory-manufactured RCC drains will be installed in accordance with the New Master Drain Plan 2025. Authorities said the upgraded drainage infrastructure will help reduce waterlogging and improve drainage efficiency during the rainy season.
Apart from launching the projects, the Chief Minister conducted a surprise inspection of ongoing road widening and drainage improvement work at Singalpur Labour Chowk in the Shalimar Bagh area.
During the inspection, Rekha Gupta sought detailed updates from officials present at the site regarding the progress of the construction work. She instructed them to ensure transparency, quality, and adherence to deadlines in executing the development projects.
The Chief Minister emphasized that along with road widening, strengthening the drainage system is crucial to providing a long-term solution to waterlogging problems in the area.
She also directed officials to ensure that the construction activities are carried out in a manner that minimizes inconvenience to local residents and commuters. Authorities were instructed to maintain proper coordination among departments so that all works are completed within the stipulated timeline.
Speaking about the initiatives, Rekha Gupta reiterated that the Delhi government is committed to strengthening infrastructure across all parts of the capital. She said improving roads, drainage systems, traffic management, and healthcare facilities remains a key priority for the government.
According to officials, these development projects are part of a broader effort by the Delhi government to upgrade urban infrastructure and address long-standing civic issues such as waterlogging and traffic congestion.
The Chief Minister added that the government aims to ensure better living conditions for residents by implementing projects that improve connectivity, strengthen basic infrastructure, and expand access to essential public services across Delhi.
