Gautam Buddh Nagar | March 14, 2026 — A surprise inspection of a Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) session was carried out by Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Sandhya Soni to review the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) in the district. The inspection was conducted following directions issued by the Director of Child Development and Nutrition, Pushpahar, after the scheme showed comparatively low progress in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Providing details about the inspection, Sandhya Soni said that the review was undertaken to assess the implementation of the scheme at the grassroots level and to ensure that eligible women are being identified and registered under the program.
During the inspection, the CDPO instructed all Anganwadi workers (AWWs) to ensure that 10 application forms are filled daily through two main supervisors, so that the benefits of the scheme can reach a larger number of eligible pregnant and lactating women in the district.
Inspection Conducted at Niyana VHSND Session
During the surprise visit to the Niyana VHSND session, the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and ASHA worker were found present at the site. According to the due list prepared for the session, a total of 11 pregnant women were identified.
Out of these, four women were found to be eligible but did not meet the required time criteria, while one woman was fully eligible for registration under the scheme. Officials informed that the application form for the eligible woman will be filled on Monday through the main supervisor, ensuring her enrollment in the scheme.
The inspection also included verification of the due list and monitoring of field-level coordination among Anganwadi workers, ANMs, and ASHA workers responsible for implementing maternal welfare programs.
Instructions to Ensure Wider Outreach
Following the inspection, the CDPO directed all Anganwadi workers in the project area to carry out extensive awareness and outreach activities so that eligible women can be identified and enrolled under the scheme. Workers were instructed to actively encourage pregnant women to apply for the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
Officials were also warned that strict action would be taken if negligence or lack of seriousness in implementing the scheme is found. The CDPO emphasized that Anganwadi workers play a crucial role in identifying beneficiaries and ensuring that government welfare schemes reach the intended recipients.
Target and Current Progress in Gautam Buddh Nagar
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, the Government of India has set a target of 13,444 beneficiary registrations for Gautam Buddh Nagar district. However, current data indicates that only 2,643 beneficiaries have been registered so far, which is significantly lower than the assigned target.
Officials expressed concern over the slow progress and stressed the need for intensified efforts to improve the registration numbers in the district.
Anganwadi workers have been instructed to identify eligible beneficiaries from the Nutrition Tracker registers, which contain records of pregnant and lactating women in their respective areas. Once identified, these women should be guided and assisted in completing the application process under the scheme.
Focus on Achieving District Targets
The administration has directed field-level workers to ensure that eligible women are registered without delay so that the district can achieve its target within the stipulated timeframe. Officials believe that increasing awareness about the scheme and strengthening monitoring at the grassroots level will help improve enrollment.
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana provides financial assistance to pregnant and lactating women to support their nutritional needs and improve maternal health outcomes. Ensuring proper implementation of the scheme is considered essential for improving maternal welfare and supporting women during pregnancy and early childcare.
Authorities have reiterated that coordinated efforts by Anganwadi workers, health staff, and supervisory officials will be key to expanding the reach of the scheme and ensuring that the benefits reach every eligible woman in the district.
