Bollywood actor Zayed Khan recently opened up about the casting process for the 2004 blockbuster Main Hoon Na and shared details about his initial meeting with Shah Rukh Khan, who starred in and co-produced the film. In an interview with the YouTube channel Couple of Things, Zayed Khan discussed the pivotal moment when Shah Rukh Khan questioned his ability to act before confirming his role in the film.
Zayed Khan recalled his first meeting with director Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khanat the latter’s office. According to Zayed Khan , the encounter was both challenging and memorable. “Farah Khan looked at me and I told her, ‘I don’t know why I’m here,’ and she just told me to shut up. I thought she was very rude at first,” Zayed Khan said, recalling his attempt to engage in conversation.
Shah Rukh Khan entered the room shortly after, and while Zayed Khan admired his polite demeanor, the conversation quickly took an unexpected turn. Zayed Khan explained, “Shah Rukh Khanwas his usual charming self, very sweet and well-mannered. But then he said, ‘We’ve called you for the second lead part in Main Hoon Na,’ and out of nowhere, he asked, ‘Kya tum actor ho? Acting kar sakte ho?’ (Are you an actor? Can you act?).”
Zayed Khan admitted that Shah Rukh Khan’s blunt question took him by surprise and made him feel uneasy, as he had never been spoken to in such a direct manner before. “I was feeling really bad when he asked me that,” Zayed Khan revealed. His initial reaction was defensive, but he responded by confidently stating, “I was born to act.” Zayed Khan emphasized that his response was not meant to come across as arrogant but came from a place of self-assurance.
He added that despite the tension, he wanted to challenge Shah Rukh Khanwith a similar question. “I wanted to ask him, ‘Can you act?’ but he just chuckled and brushed it off.”
