New Delhi, 03 Sept : The White House has announced that US President Joe Biden will go to India next week to attend the G20 Summit in Delhi, where he will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bilateral encounter. Biden and PM Modi will meet bilaterally on September 8, one day before the official G20 Summit begins. The President will travel to New Delhi, India, on Thursday (September 7), to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit. On Friday, the President will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bilateral meeting, the White House stated in a news statement on the President’s schedule posted on Friday. According to the White House, President Biden will also compliment Prime Minister Modi’s G20 leadership during his visit.

The 15th G20 Summit will be place in Delhi, India, on September 9 to 10. While in New Delhi, President Biden will also commend Prime Minister Modi’s G20 leadership and reaffirm the United States’ commitment to the G20 as the premier forum of economic cooperation, including by hosting it in 2026, the statement added. On September 9 and 10, Biden will attend the G20 Summit in Delhi, where he will debate a variety of problems, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, climate change, and the transition to sustainable energy.

President Biden and G20 partners will discuss a range of joint efforts to tackle global issues, including the clean energy transition and combating climate change, mitigating the economic and social consequences of Putin’s war in Ukraine, and increasing the capacity of multilateral development banks, including the World Bank, to better fight poverty, including by addressing global challenges, according to the White House. Bilateral encounters with the French President and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom are also likely: In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to conduct separate bilateral discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Delhi.

In addition, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is of Indian ancestry, is expected to attend a separate bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi, during which a decision on the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) might be made. Last month, UK Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch visited New Delhi and spoke with Indian government officials about a potential trade agreement between India and the UK. Badenoch told reporters in Jaipur that the transaction was in the final stages of negotiation. The subject of visa liberalization for Indians is anticipated to come up during PM Modi and Sunak’s bilateral encounter.
