A day after a deadly terror strike in Pahalgam shook Jammu and Kashmir, security forces foiled another infiltration attempt in Baramulla’s Uri sector, killing two terrorists in an intense encounter. The clash, which took place along the Line of Control, came amidst heightened alert across the region following the Pahalgam tragedy that claimed 26 lives. The operation highlights the ongoing threat posed by infiltrators and the swift response by the Indian Army to neutralize them.
The encounter unfolded on Wednesday when troops detected suspicious movement near the Sarjeevan general area in Uri Nala of Baramulla. According to the Indian Army, a group of two to three terrorists was attempting to cross into Indian territory under the cover of darkness. As soon as contact was established, a heavy exchange of fire ensued between the infiltrators and the soldiers stationed in the area.
In its official statement, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the elimination of two terrorists during the operation. “Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled,” the Army stated in a post on X. It also confirmed that a large cache of arms, ammunition, and war-like stores was recovered from the slain terrorists, indicating their readiness for a major strike.
The Uri operation comes just a day after a brutal attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists opened fire at a popular tourist site in the Baisaran meadow, also known as ‘mini Switzerland’. The assault left 26 people dead and many others injured, sparking national outrage and a series of high-level security reviews.
Following the Pahalgam attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his official visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to Delhi early Wednesday. He immediately held a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to assess the situation and review the response strategy. Modi was scheduled to return later that night but cancelled his participation in the official dinner hosted by the Saudi Crown Prince to address the domestic crisis.
In a strongly worded message on X, PM Modi condemned the Pahalgam attack, assured full support to the victims’ families, and pledged that those responsible would be brought to justice. “Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable, and it will get even stronger,” he posted.
