In a show of solidarity following the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, US President Donald Trump called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express condolences and offer America’s full support. The attack, which claimed at least 28 lives including foreign nationals, triggered global outrage, with world leaders condemning the violence and extending sympathies to India. PM Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to justice, while top US officials also shared their grief over the tragedy.
According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, President Trump called PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday to convey his deepest condolences over the loss of innocent lives. He strongly condemned the attack and reiterated America’s unwavering support in India’s fight against terrorism. Jaiswal added that India and the US “stand together in the fight against terror,” underlining the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Trump also addressed the incident via his Truth Social platform, describing the events in Kashmir as “deeply disturbing.” He wrote, “The United States stands strong with India against terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies.”
The Pahalgam attack, one of the worst assaults on civilians since the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, was carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked group The Resistance Front (TRF). Gunmen opened fire on tourists and locals at the Baisaran meadow, a scenic tourist destination in south Kashmir. Intelligence sources revealed that four to six militants, including foreign nationals and one local, were involved. Bullets from M4 carbines and AK-47s were recovered from the site.
US Vice President JD Vance, currently visiting India with his wife Usha, also expressed deep sorrow over the attack. “Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Vance posted on social media.
The White House confirmed that President Trump had prioritized the call with PM Narendra Modi. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the President wished to personally express support and discuss India’s security concerns. US NSA Mike Waltz added his voice, calling the attack a “terrible tragedy,” and urging prayers for the victims.
