To ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and improve road safety, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police carried out an extensive enforcement drive on February 8, 2026. The operation was conducted under the directions of the Police Commissioner and under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
During the drive, traffic police personnel issued 2,184 challans through manual checking at key junctions and traffic points. Additionally, 3,858 vehicles were penalized using the Integrated Smart Traffic Management System (ISTMS) cameras. In total, action was taken against 6,042 vehicles through e-challans.
Officials stated that the objective of the drive was to reduce road accidents and instill a sense of discipline among road users. Traffic violations were dealt with strictly, without any leniency.
Helmet-related violations accounted for the highest number of challans during the operation. A total of 2,215 motorists were penalized for riding without helmets. Cases of using mobile phones while driving were also addressed, with 69 challans issued for the offence.
Strict action was taken against over-speeding vehicles as well. As many as 383 vehicles were penalized for exceeding prescribed speed limits. Traffic officials emphasized that over-speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious road accidents.
In cases involving serious violations, the traffic police seized 11 vehicles. Authorities clarified that vehicle seizure would continue in cases where violations pose a significant threat to public safety.
As part of the special enforcement campaign, action was also taken against drunk driving and vehicles moving in the wrong direction. Police records show that 597 challans were issued for wrong-side driving, while 17 cases of drunk driving were registered.
Traffic police officials reiterated that traffic violations not only endanger the life of the driver but also put other road users at serious risk. Continuous monitoring through technology and manual enforcement is being carried out to address these concerns.
The Traffic Police of Gautam Buddh Nagar appealed to citizens to strictly follow traffic rules, wear helmets and seat belts, avoid using mobile phones while driving, and adhere to speed limits.
Police authorities emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility and warned that strict enforcement against traffic violations will continue in the coming days.
