A tragic incident was reported on Sunday from Dalelgarh village under Dankaur police station limits in Greater Noida, where a three-year-old child died after drowning in a deep water-filled pit located near a temple. The pit was reportedly situated on government land. The incident has left the family in deep grief and triggered anger among local residents.

According to information received, Anil, a resident of Dalelgarh village, had his daughter Anjali visiting her parental home from her in-laws’ residence in Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr district. She had arrived a few days earlier along with her three-year-old son Devansh and her daughter.
On Sunday, a community feast (bhandara) was being organized at a temple located near the family’s house. The family members, along with the children, had gone to participate in the religious event. During the gathering, Devansh was playing near the temple premises.
Child Fell Into Water-Filled Pit While Playing
While playing, the child reportedly wandered toward a deep pit situated on adjacent government land. The pit was filled with water. In the course of playing, Devansh lost balance and fell into the water-filled pit. The incident initially went unnoticed by those present at the venue.
After some time, when the child was not seen around, family members began searching for him. A frantic search was conducted in and around the temple premises and nearby areas. During the search, Devansh was found in the water-filled pit.
Family members immediately pulled him out and began preparations to take him to a hospital. However, by that time, the child had already died. The sudden tragedy plunged the family into mourning, and scenes of grief were witnessed at the village.
Villagers Allege Negligence by Authorities
Local resident Amit Bhati alleged that a complaint regarding water accumulation in the pit had been made to officials of the Greater Noida Authority on January 4. Despite the complaint, no action was taken to fill the pit or secure the area.
Villagers claim that the accident occurred due to administrative negligence. They stated that if timely measures had been taken to address the waterlogging or if proper safety arrangements had been made, the incident could have been prevented. Residents have demanded strict action against those responsible and have urged authorities to take immediate steps to eliminate such hazards in the area.
The incident has sparked resentment among villagers, who have called for urgent intervention to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Police Statement
Dankaur police station in-charge Munendra Singh stated that the family has refused to conduct a post-mortem examination of the child. He added that if a formal complaint is received, the matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken accordingly.
The incident has left the entire village in shock. Residents have appealed to the administration to identify and fill dangerous open pits in residential areas to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of children and the general public.
