In a tragic incident in Karnataka’s Bidar district, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl from the Scheduled Caste community. The arrests were made on Thursday following a detailed investigation by the local police.
Bidar Superintendent of Police, Pradeep Gunti, confirmed that a case has been filed under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with charges of rape and murder. The three accused include one individual from the same village as the victim and two from a neighboring village. All three have been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.
The victim, who had been missing since August 29, was reported as missing by her parents on August 31 after they were unable to locate her despite their efforts. On September 1, her body was discovered in a bush, revealing signs of a violent death including a deep head injury. Initially, the police registered a murder case. However, following the postmortem and forensic tests, rape charges were added to the case.
The investigation revealed that the victim was acquainted with the primary accused, who had reportedly invited her to accompany him in a car along with the other two accused. After she did not return home, her parents grew concerned and eventually filed a police report.
The case has sparked significant outrage among local communities, organizations, and political parties, including the opposition BJP, which has condemned the incident and called for justice. Protests have erupted demanding accountability for the perpetrators and support for the victim’s family.
The police’s efforts led to the swift apprehension of the suspects, and ongoing investigations are aimed at uncovering further details and ensuring a thorough prosecution. The case continues to draw public attention and calls for stringent action against the accused.
As the investigation progresses, authorities remain committed to delivering justice for the victim and addressing the community’s concerns about safety and legal redress.
