Apple introduced its latest suite of AI features, branded as “Apple Intelligence,” in a bid to enhance its devices and keep pace with competitors in the AI space. The announcement came during the annual Worldwide Developers Conference held at Apple’s headquarters.
Partnering with OpenAI, Apple aims to integrate ChatGPT into its devices later this year, allowing users to benefit from advanced AI capabilities. This move signals Apple’s commitment to bolstering its AI offerings amidst pressure from rivals like Microsoft and Google.
“Apple Intelligence will take the experience of Apple products to new heights,” remarked Apple CEO Tim Cook, emphasizing the significance of the new AI features.
Apple executives highlighted the privacy safeguards integrated into Apple Intelligence, ensuring that user data remains protected while enhancing Siri and other products with AI capabilities.
However, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk criticized the partnership, expressing concerns about data security. Elon Musk, who is developing his own AI technology through xAI, raised doubts about the privacy implications of the collaboration with OpenAI.
Apple Intelligence, powered by in-house technology, introduces innovative features such as emoji creation based on natural language descriptions and email summarization. Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, receives an AI-infused upgrade and will now appear as a pulsating light on the edge of the home screen.
The partnership with OpenAI allows users to enhance Siri with ChatGPT on certain requests, offering an advanced AI experience tailored to individual preferences.
While the AI announcements garnered attention, Apple’s share price experienced a slight decline at the close of trading on Monday, reflecting mixed reactions from investors.
