On Monday, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announced the successful deployment of its sub-metre optical satellite into space. The satellite, assembled and tested in India, was launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, on Sunday (April 7).
According to TASL, the TSAT-1A satellite will provide high-resolution optical satellite images with enhanced collection capacity, dynamic range, and low-latency delivery through its multispectral and hyperspectral capabilities.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, TASL is a significant player in aerospace and defence solutions in India. The TSAT-1A satellite was developed through a collaboration between TASL and Satellogic Inc, a leader in sub-metre resolution Earth Observation data collection.
The satellite was assembled at TASL’s Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) plant located at its Vemagal facility in Karnataka. This achievement follows a collaboration agreement signed between TASL and Satellogic in November, leveraging Satellogic’s expertise in Earth Observation satellite development and TASL’s capability in complex system integration.
TASL CEO and Managing Director Sukaran Singh expressed gratitude for the support received from various Indian government authorities for the required permissions. He emphasized the milestone as a testament to TASL’s commitment to the space sector and highlighted the partnership with Satellogic as a significant step forward.
