Amravati (Maharashtra) [India], November 6 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday highlighted the renaming of the Mughal Museum in Agra to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum while addressing a rally in Maharashtra’s Amravati.

CM Yogi noted that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had challenged the authority of a “barbaric invader” like Aurangzeb. He said he had ordered the renaming of the Mughal Museum to make it a symbol of the Marathas and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj challenged the power of a barbaric invader like Aurangzeb. When I became the CM of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, I visited Agra. I was informed that a Mughal museum was being constructed there, with Aurangzeb having ruled the region briefly. I questioned the relevance of Mughals to India and Agra,” said CM Yogi.

“We declared that India is connected to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Rename this museum. It should stand as a symbol of the Marathas and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” CM Yogi added.

CM Yogi further urged the public not to fall prey to divisive politics. He said, “Many will come to you, raising various issues. I have only one line to say: ‘Do not divide; those who divided were cut down; unity is a virtue.'”

The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with votes for all 288 constituencies to be counted on November 23.

The opposition MVA coalition, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (SCP), seeks to reclaim power in the state, challenging the Mahayuti alliance, which includes Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena secured 56, and Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP won 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42. (ANI)
