Lucknow, 08 Sept (HS): “The BJP’s choice of candidate proved incorrect, as Dara Singh Chauhan is seen as a party jumper. Chauhan is unpopular even in his own constituency because he did not do anything good for his constituency when he served as minister in the first Yogi government, a BJP senior said on condition of anonymity. The Ghosi assembly seat became vacant after Chauhan, who had won the seat in the 2022 UP assembly elections, resigned from the Samajwadi Party in July. Later, Chauhan rejoined the BJP and was nominated as the party’s candidate in the byelection. Samajwadi Party’s candidate Sudhakar Singh’s win by over 40,000 votes, on the other hand, suggests that a unified opposition may eat away at the BJP’s upper caste vote.
Congress, CPI(M), AAP, RLD, CPI, and Suheldev Swabhiman Party are among the INDIA bloc components who have backed Singh. If Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party joins the alliance, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections would be a close call. The defeat of the BJP is an embarrassment because it is the first time they have faced the INDIA bloc. SP filed multiple complaints against poll workers and police officers. Had claimed that Muslim voters were being barred from voting. Ghosi, Mau district, had a voter turnout of 50.77%. Chauhan beat BJP candidate Vijay Kumar Rajbhar by 22,216 votes last year.
