Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her interim Budget speech, highlighted the significant achievements of the Skill India Mission, revealing that as many as 1.4 crore youth have been trained and upskilled. This initiative, focusing on skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling, has been instrumental in addressing the nation’s workforce demands through both short-term and long-term training programs. The mission has seen substantial investments across various sectors, with more than 20 central ministries and departments actively implementing skill development schemes nationwide.

Key Points and Program Implementation

Under the Skill India Mission, the government has prioritized the establishment of new educational institutions alongside vocational training programs. Notably, the establishment of 3,000 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) signifies a concerted effort to bridge the gap between industry requirements and available skilled manpower. Additionally, the initiative has fostered closer collaboration between academia and industry, ensuring that training programs align with evolving market needs.

The Skill India Mission’s emphasis on empowering youth through skill development initiatives has garnered significant attention. Finance Minister Sitharaman highlighted the mission’s achievements, including the training and upskilling of 54 lakh individuals, alongside the establishment of new ITIs.
