In the video, the manager bluntly refuses, stating that she lives in India and will not speak Kannada first, mentioning her mother tongue is Hindi. This response upset many viewers, sparking widespread criticism on social media platforms.
An X user posted the video with a caption urging action against the manager, claiming that the manager and staff were disrespecting Kannada by imposing Hindi on Karnataka residents, violating Reserve Bank of India rules that recommend communication in the local language.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the manager’s refusal to speak Kannada and English, describing the behavior as disrespectful to the citizens of Karnataka. In response to the backlash, the SBI branch manager issued an apology video, speaking in Kannada with help from colleagues. She expressed regret for hurting anyone and promised to cooperate and conduct her business in Kannada moving forward.
