External affairs minister S Jaishankar will embark on a two-day visit to the United States from June 30 to July 2, aiming to strengthen India’s diplomatic footprint in the Indo-Pacific and advance anti-terror initiatives on the global stage. The visit comes at the invitation of US secretary of state Marco Rubio and will include participation in the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting and the inauguration of an anti-terrorism exhibition at the United Nations.
Quad meeting to discuss Indo-Pacific developments
The Quad foreign ministers’ meeting, scheduled for July 1, will bring together ministers from India, the United States, Australia, and Japan to exchange views on regional and global developments, with a strong focus on the Indo-Pacific. This meeting will build upon discussions from the earlier January 21 session in Washington, which was the first significant foreign policy engagement under the Trump administration.
The leaders are expected to review the progress of existing Quad initiatives while deliberating on new proposals aimed at furthering a free and open Indo-Pacific. The talks will contribute to the upcoming Quad Leaders’ Summit, which India will host, positioning India at the forefront of regional security and cooperation efforts.
Focus on anti-terror campaign at the UN
On June 30, S Jaishankar will inaugurate an exhibition titled “The Human Cost of Terrorism” at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The exhibition aims to highlight the devastating impact of terrorism globally while underlining the steps taken by the international community to combat such threats.
This exhibition is a part of India’s broader efforts to gather global support for its campaign against cross-border terrorism, particularly in the context of Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7. Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in April, and India continues to seek international backing to address cross-border terror threats effectively.
During his visit, S Jaishankar will also hold discussions with his counterparts on strengthening partnerships, promoting regional stability, and enhancing security cooperation, ensuring that India remains a proactive player in shaping a secure Indo-Pacific framework aligned with global counter-terrorism efforts.
