Held at Police Lines, the event saw Droupadi Murmu perform yoga asanas alongside Governor Gurmeet Singh and other dignitaries. The nationwide celebration, themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” witnessed widespread participation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the global community from Visakhapatnam, calling yoga a shared global responsibility and a path to collective well-being.

The President, on the final day of her three-day visit to Uttarakhand, took part in the yoga session organized at Police Lines, Dehradun. Visuals from the event showed her actively performing yoga postures with Governor Gurmeet Singh and senior officials. Her participation not only highlighted the importance of yoga at the national level but also sent a strong message of wellness and inclusivity.

As part of her visit to the state, President Droupadi Murmu had earlier inaugurated the public viewing of the newly developed Rashtrapati Niketan and paid a visit to the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities. There, she interacted with students, toured a science lab, and viewed an exhibition designed to empower visually impaired individuals. Additionally, she released a commemorative postage stamp marking 125 years of the iconic Raj Bhavan in Nainital, celebrating its historical and cultural significance.

PM Modi’s global message from Visakhapatnam

While the President led the celebrations in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and the world from the scenic coast of Visakhapatnam. Against the backdrop of Indian Navy ships stationed offshore, PM Modi was joined by thousands of yoga enthusiasts, local residents, and dignitaries from Andhra Pradesh in a grand public event.

In his address, PM Modi emphasized that yoga should go beyond individual practice and become a global movement rooted in peace, health, and unity. He urged the international community to make “inner peace” a global policy and adopt yoga as a universal tool for harmony.

“Let this International Yoga Day be a turning point,” PM Modi said. “A day when the world agrees to pursue inner peace as a shared mission. Where yoga becomes a tool for global cooperation and not just personal transformation.”

He invited people across countries and cultures to adopt yoga as a part of their daily lives, calling it a bridge between mind and body, society and spirituality. PM Modi envisioned a future where every person starts their day with yoga, every community is stress-free, and yoga becomes a common commitment to humanity.

The Prime Minister’s call for unity resonated through the day’s events, with multiple Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and other political leaders joining Yoga Day celebrations across India. From cities to remote villages, people gathered in large numbers, reflecting the nationwide impact of the movement that began in 2015 with India’s proposal to the United Nations.

This year’s theme — “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” — aligns with India’s vision of sustainable living and inclusive wellness. Through mass participation and high-profile leadership involvement, the 11th edition of International Yoga Day reaffirmed India’s growing role in shaping global narratives of peace, health, and cultural heritage.
