On the 11th International Day of Yoga, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led the celebrations in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, while delivering a strong message of national unity, security, and global harmony. Blending the spirit of yoga with the nation’s fight against terrorism, Rajnath Singh praised the armed forces for their valour and reiterated that Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, is far from over. His remarks reflected India’s firm stance on terrorism and the growing global embrace of yoga as a symbol of peace and resilience.

Operation Sindoor is not over

During his address to army personnel in Udhampur, Rajnath Singh hailed the Indian Army’s bravery, specifically applauding their role in Operation Sindoor. He made it clear that the operation was not just a retaliation, but a strategic response meant to send a long-term message. Referring to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, he emphasized that it was not an isolated incident but a deliberate attempt to disrupt India’s social harmony. He stated that the Indian forces had given a powerful response, forcing Pakistan to reconsider its actions and bringing about a temporary halt to Operation Sindoor. However, Rajnath Singh stressed that the operation is ongoing and is part of a broader counter-terrorism strategy.

Drawing connections with past military responses, Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as a continuation of India’s previous decisive actions — including the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes. He warned Pakistan that the costs of supporting terrorism against India are now higher than ever. Rajnath Singh also invoked historical sacrifices made by Indian soldiers, referencing heroes like Major Somnath Sharma and Brigadier Usman, underscoring the deep legacy of courage and commitment that drives India’s defence forces.

Yoga as a symbol of global unity

Switching focus to the significance of the day, Rajnath Singh underlined the essence of yoga as more than just a physical discipline. “Yoga means union,” he said, urging the public to extend this union to include every section of society. He stressed that true national security involves uniting people in spirit, culture, and consciousness. Rajnath Singh called for practicing not only physical yoga but also unity in thought, action, and resolve, especially in times of internal and external challenges.

He pointed out that yoga has become a global phenomenon, once practiced by sages, and now embraced by people worldwide. Highlighting the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day — “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” — Rajnath Singh aligned yoga’s philosophy with sustainability and global well-being. He said the theme reflected India’s ancient belief in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the idea that the whole world is one family.

Speaking about the rising global relevance of yoga, Rajnath Singh noted its role in combating modern challenges like stress, anxiety, and unrest. According to him, yoga promotes mindfulness, discipline, and emotional strength — qualities that are essential for individuals and nations alike. He praised the widespread enthusiasm seen in India and globally for Yoga Day, calling it a sign of India’s growing cultural influence and soft power.

Rajnath Singh had arrived in Udhampur on June 20, participating in cultural programs and joining army personnel for “Bada Khana,” a traditional meal. His presence, both symbolic and strategic, reinforced the dual message of strength and serenity — showcasing India’s resolve to protect its unity while promoting peace through its ancient traditions.
