Budget boosts support for street vendors
The Indian government’s 2024 Budget brings good news for street vendors! The popular PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme is getting a major upgrade. Not only is the program extended until December 2024, but a bigger loan option is now available. The budget allocates significant funds to support street vendors, letting them access a third loan of up to ₹50,000 on top of the existing ₹10,000 and ₹20,000 options. This move shows the government’s commitment to helping street vendors thrive and build financial security.
More benefits, more opportunities
The revamped PM SVANidhi Scheme is a game-changer for street vendors. By November 2022, over 31.73 lakh vendors had already grabbed the first ₹10,000 loan, with 5.81 lakh going on to secure the second ₹20,000 loan. And guess what? As of today, over 6,926 street vendors have already taken advantage of the new ₹50,000 loan option! This shows the increased financial support and flexibility the scheme offers vendors nationwide.
Empowering vendors, building a sustainable future
The PM SVANidhi Scheme is a shining example of the government’s dedication to empowering street vendors and creating long-term economic opportunities for them. With over 57 lakh vendors benefiting so far, the scheme has been a beacon of hope during tough times. It provides financial help, digital tools, and even helps vendors expand their reach in the market. It’s worth noting that a whopping 45% of beneficiaries are women, and a commendable 72% come from marginalized communities. This highlights the scheme’s focus on inclusivity and its positive impact on society.
Extending the program, building a brighter future
The extension of the PM SVANidhi Scheme with even better features in Budget 2024 proves the government’s commitment to uplifting street vendors and making them more resilient in the face of ever-changing challenges. As the scheme continues to grow and adapt, it holds the potential to drive major social and economic change, empowering millions of street vendors across India to build a brighter future.
