Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate an ambitious project aimed at restoring degraded land in the Aravalli mountain range, a crucial ecological zone spanning 700 kilometers from Gujarat to Delhi. This large-scale environmental initiative, scheduled for Thursday, highlights the government’s commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development. Alongside this, important political and administrative activities are underway in several states, including Telangana’s cabinet meeting and the inauguration of the final stretch of Maharashtra’s Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Reviving the Aravalli Ecosystem
PM Modi will personally plant saplings in the South Delhi ridge area, part of the ancient Aravalli range, which is vital for water security and biodiversity. The project involves the development of around 1,000 nurseries across 29 districts situated within the mountain range. The Aravallis are a lifeline for key rivers like the Chambal, Sabarmati, and Luni, and their forests, grasslands, and wetlands support numerous endangered species. The restoration effort aims not only to improve the environment but also to protect these natural habitats and promote sustainable land use.
This launch will see the participation of the Chief Ministers of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, reflecting the collaborative approach needed to preserve this extensive ecological corridor. The initiative is expected to enhance greenery, prevent land degradation, and support livelihoods linked to forest and water resources.
Political and Developmental Updates Across States
In Nagpur, veteran tribal leader Arvind Netam, who served in the Cabinets of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and P V Narasimha Rao, will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s 25-day volunteer training camp. The event, taking place at Dr Hedgewar Smriti Mandir, involves 840 volunteers from across India, focusing on leadership and community service.
Meanwhile, the Telangana government has scheduled a cabinet meeting to address key issues such as the implementation of the Indiramma housing scheme, preparation for the monsoon agricultural season, and the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam self-employment program. These discussions aim to bolster social welfare and economic development in the state.
In Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the final 76-kilometer stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, completing the 701 km highway. The operational expressway has already eased travel, with nearly two crore vehicles using it. The new segment will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to just eight hours, boosting connectivity and economic activity.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar is also set to visit Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, including an interaction with students and faculty at Dr Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry in Solan, highlighting the administration’s focus on education and regional development.
These diverse developments underscore ongoing efforts to combine environmental sustainability, infrastructure growth, and governance reforms across India.
