The expansion of Jewar Airport in Noida is set to gain major momentum this financial year as part of efforts to strengthen the region’s aviation ecosystem. Under the proposed plan, the number of runways at the airport will be increased from two to five, positioning it as one of the largest and most advanced aviation hubs in the country.
A budget of ₹750 crore has been approved for the expansion project. The allocated funds will be utilized not only for runway construction but also for developing aviation research, operations, and maintenance infrastructure. Officials stated that the investment is aimed at ensuring long-term operational efficiency and scalability.
Construction work under the first phase of the Jewar Airport project has been largely completed. Terminal buildings, runways, taxiways, and allied infrastructure are in the final stages of development. Preparations for the airport’s inauguration have also intensified, with trial runs, security checks, and technical evaluations being conducted systematically.
The increase in runway capacity is expected to significantly improve aircraft movement and reduce congestion. It will enable the airport to handle a higher number of domestic and international flights simultaneously. Aviation experts believe that with five runways, Jewar Airport could emerge as a key aviation hub in Asia.
Special emphasis has been placed on developing aviation research and operational facilities under the approved budget. Plans include advanced air traffic management systems, safety infrastructure, maintenance hangars, and training centers. These initiatives are expected to enhance technical capabilities and create new employment opportunities in the region.
The expansion of Jewar Airport is anticipated to provide a major boost to industrial and commercial development in Noida, Greater Noida, the Yamuna Expressway region, and western Uttar Pradesh. Increased investments are expected in logistics, warehousing, hospitality, real estate, and service sectors surrounding the airport.
Authorities believe the airport project will strengthen regional connectivity and act as a catalyst for economic growth. Enhanced cargo handling capacity is expected to facilitate exports and imports, benefiting the state’s industrial economy.
Aviation analysts note that the five-runway design has been planned with future demand in mind. Considering the projected rise in passenger traffic and cargo movement over the coming decades, the expansion is seen as a strategically important step.
Officials have also emphasized that environmental norms and safety regulations will be strictly followed throughout the construction and operational phases. Sustainable development practices and modern technologies are being prioritized to minimize environmental impact.
Once fully operational, Jewar Airport is expected to rank among the most modern and high-capacity airports in the country. The project is likely to play a crucial role in giving Noida and its surrounding regions a strong presence on the global aviation map.
