The Greater Noida Authority has issued a stern warning to bulk waste generators (BWGs) for negligence in handling and disposing of solid waste, stating that any violation of Solid Waste Management Rules will lead to penalties and legal action. A workshop was organized in the Authority’s board room on the instructions of ACEO Lakshmi VS, conducted jointly by the Health Department and Feedback Foundation, to brief industries on compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and the updated Rules 2024.
During the workshop, the Health Department team emphasized that industries must play a proactive role in helping Greater Noida become a clean and environmentally responsible city. The team stated that all bulk waste generators are mandated to segregate and manage waste within their premises. Instances of negligence by some BWGs prompted the Authority to issue strict warnings and reiterate the importance of adherence to the rules.
Feedback Foundation delivered a detailed presentation outlining the key responsibilities of BWGs. These include mandatory on-site waste segregation, safe storage of waste, proper disposal of wet waste, transferring segregated waste only to authorised agencies, timely payment of user charges, and regular submission of waste management reports to the Authority.
The Authority made it clear that any violation of Solid Waste Management Rules will invite penalties and other legal measures. The Health Department stressed that maintaining cleanliness and sustainable waste practices is a shared responsibility, and industries must strictly follow prescribed norms to support the city’s environmental goals.
The workshop concluded with all participants taking a collective pledge for cleanliness and responsible waste management. Present at the session were Assistant Manager Gaurav Baghel from the Health Department, representatives from Feedback Foundation, Industry Business Association President Amit Upadhyay, Treasurer Rakesh Agarwal, and representatives from various industrial units.
