Thirty-three new faces have joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third government, sworn in on Sunday, marking a significant reshuffle in the Union Cabinet. Notably, at least six of these ministers come from well-established political families, adding a dynastic touch to the Modi 3.0 administration.
The fresh entrants include three former chief ministers: Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Madhya Pradesh, Manohar Lal Khattar from Haryana, and HD Kumaraswamy from Karnataka. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a five-time MP from Vidisha, follows in the footsteps of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who previously represented the same constituency.
Manohar Lal Khattar, a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, has served as the chief minister of Haryana twice. He resigned from his post in March following the withdrawal of support from the government’s ally, JJP.
Among the notable first-time ministers are Raksha Khadse, daughter-in-law of senior NCP leader Eknath Khadse, and actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi, who made history by becoming the first BJP MP from Kerala.
Jitin Prasada, returning to the Union Council of Ministers after a decade, adds a familial legacy to the Cabinet, being the son of former Congress vice-president Jitendra Prasada, who served as political advisor to two prime ministers.
The inclusion of these fresh faces underscores Narendra Modi’s emphasis on a blend of experience and new talent in his government, while also acknowledging the contributions of political legacies to the Indian political landscape.
