Delhi Police are scheduled to question Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s parents at his official residence on Thursday morning regarding the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal, according to party sources.
A political firestorm ignited after Swati Maliwal accused Bibhav Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant, of assaulting her at the Chief Minister’s residence. Bibhav Kumar was subsequently arrested.
Arvind Kejriwal’s parents reportedly invited the Delhi Police to their son’s Civil Lines residence for questioning at 11:30 am today. Additionally, there are indications that Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, may also be questioned in connection with the case.
The police, seeking to record statements, had requested time to meet Arvind Kejriwal’s family at the Chief Minister’s residence, sources revealed.
In his initial response to the Swati Maliwal case, Arvind Kejriwal stressed the need for a fair investigation, acknowledging the existence of conflicting versions of events. Swati Maliwal, however, expressed skepticism over Arvind Kejriwal’s stance, citing the perceived irony in his call for a “free and fair investigation.”
Swati Maliwal alleges that she was severely assaulted by Bibhav Kumar at Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on May 13, claiming he continued the assault despite her mentioning her menstrual condition. Bibhav Kumar was subsequently arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Arvind Kejriwal confirmed his presence at the residence during the incident but asserted he was not at the scene when the alleged assault occurred.
The unfolding developments underscore the intensifying scrutiny surrounding the case, amidst demands for impartiality and justice from all quarters involved.
