New Delhi
In a significant pro-people decision aimed at providing relief from rising inflation, the Delhi Government has approved a major welfare scheme for economically vulnerable and middle-income families. The Cabinet, chaired by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta, has approved a proposal under which all ration card holding families in Delhi will receive financial assistance equivalent to two LPG cylinders every year starting from 2026.
The Chief Minister stated that the assistance will be provided on two major festive occasions—Holi and Diwali—to ease the financial burden on families during festivals. The amount will be transferred directly to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account of the head of the family through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency, efficiency, and timely delivery.
Mrs. Rekha Gupta emphasized that the scheme reflects the Delhi Government’s commitment to a targeted, transparent, and accountable welfare framework, ensuring that benefits reach every eligible household without discrimination. She clarified that the scheme is universal in nature and will apply equally to all ration card holders, irrespective of whether they use LPG or PNG for cooking.
Currently, the price of an LPG cylinder in Delhi stands at ₹853. Under the scheme, beneficiaries covered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will receive ₹553 per cylinder after adjusting the ₹300 subsidy provided by the Central Government. Non-PMUY ration card holders will receive full assistance of ₹853 per cylinder.
The Chief Minister informed that the estimated annual expenditure for this scheme will be approximately ₹242.77 crore, which will be adjusted as per fluctuations in LPG prices, central subsidies, and the number of beneficiaries. Adequate budgetary provisions have been ensured by the Delhi Government for effective implementation.
She stated that the scheme is not merely a financial support measure but a means to ensure dignity, relief, and festive security for families. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, noting that the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has empowered millions of women across the country with access to clean fuel, better health, and a dignified life. The Delhi Government’s initiative is an extension of this visionary approach.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Mrs. Rekha Gupta said that this scheme was a part of the BJP’s election manifesto and that the Delhi Government is systematically delivering on its promises. She emphasized that this is not just an announcement, but a reflection of intent, governance capability, and the true essence of good governance.
